cartoon is still popular among the elementary school students these days. According to the survey we performed, the highest number, about 39% of students answered they watch cartoon for 1~2 hours a day and only 6% of students said they do not watch the cartoon. They want to become like the hero/heroin of the cartoon, so they often buy school supplies related to the cartoon. It was shown that boys like robots and fighting cartoons, and girls like cartoons about princesses and pretty girls. For example, Boys like ‘Pocket Monster 2’, ‘D. Gray Man’, ‘Power Ranger’, and ‘Adventure of Dinosaur King’, and girls like ‘Charac Charac Change’, ‘Sugar Sugar Loon’, and ‘Twins Princesses in the Mysterious Star.’ Cartoons are good for improving students’ creativity and imagination, and it is easy to approach. However, sometimes cartoons have side effects.
Firstly, cartoons can cause overconsumption of character designed products. Korean cartoon ‘Pporong Pporong Ppororo(뽀롱 뽀롱 뽀로로)’ has become a sensational issue among the children. Over four hundreds of Ppororo related products have been produced and sold (Choi-JinSuk, 2009). Students easily imitate their hero/heroin. Adults use students’ mind of imitation for their commercial benefits. Elementary school students are not yet fully mature to buy the things reasonably, so they are easily enchanted and buy the things related to their favorite characters.
